Like the walls have stretched during the night. I open the front door. And that’s when I see it. Blood. Thick, dark, fresh blood—pooled at the threshold like a warning sign. It’s spread across the wooden planks in a perfect circle, too neat to be accidental. Too deliberate to be natural. I stumble back, hand gripping the edge of the doorframe. At first, I think maybe it’s a trick of the light. A stain. Something old. But the color is too vivid, too bright. It reflects the weak morning light like a mirror.

Alpha Kingsley POV I looked around, but nothing was there. It seemed as though the attacker had simply vanished into thin air. I squatted down, and partly concealed beneath a layer of dry leaves was a tiny droplet of black blood. I carefully brushed the leaves aside and examined it closely. The blood was dark, almost pitch black, with a strange sticky texture unlike ordinary blood. I observed it for a while, trying to sense any lingering aura or identify anything unusual about it, but I couldn’t get anything from it.

Ivy spoke as I walked to her desk. “What have you found?” I asked. “You owe me for this.” I nodded, “You are nodding without hearing what I have in mind,” she shook her head smiling. “I know you want two tickets to the game next weekend.” “Next time I will make it less obvious,” she smiled, “Anyway I managed to find something. I first checked the prints and yours were obvious so that was easy. The rest I’m still running an algorithm and it will take some time, but there were a few dried blood stains I saw when I checked with the microscope and I got a match.”

From there, I could see two things that caught our attention. “Hey, Aka, look!” Akira belted out, pointing to the floor directly in front of the vent, “There’s a small blood mark on the floor there!” “Oh, you’re right. Nice eye Akira.” I complimented, kneeling down to take a look at it. The mark was incredibly small, but the distinct color made it easily spottable. “How do you think this got here?” Urkstin asked, joining us in our investigation. “No clue yet. But-” I started, dragging a finger through the mark. Just as I suspected, the blood came with my finger. “-This mark is definitely from this case. It’s fresh.”
