The pup sniffed at the air before it ran further inside. “Alpha Mike!” A male werewolf saw the pup limping toward him and cried out in delight to the packmates behind him. “It’s the lost pup! We found it!” When Mike, an Alpha of another pack, saw the pup’s injured leg, he frowned. “Someone’s bandaged his leg.” The pup whined and bit down on Mike’s robe before tugging him along. “I think he wants you to follow him…” “Let’s go.” The pup barked and brought them to Zoey’s side.

But the pup's features, which bore an undeniable resemblance to him, shattered that last, fragile hope. "Daddy, it hurts…" the pup cried, his voice trembling with pain as he held up his scraped hands for Cassian to see. Cassian immediately crouched down, his face a mask of heartache and concern. But when he turned his gaze to Elara, it was cold and sharp. "What happened?"

Gerald was more startled than anything. After all, he hadn’t expected to bump into this little one so deep inside the forest. In a way, it was a miracle that this puppy was still alive with so many predatory beasts lurking within the forest.

Sarah POV “Mommy, look!” Chloe cried, pointing to an attendant holding a golden retriever puppy that looked about ten weeks old. “What will you name her?” Zane asked, his tone indulgent as the attendant put the puppy on the ground just a couple of feet away from the girls. Chloe looked ready to rush to the puppy, but she restrained herself. I found myself nodding with approval, and she flashed me an indulgent look of her own. Chloe sat on the floor and put her mask down beside her. The puppy looked at her, then slowly came forward to sniff her. Chloe put up her hand, let it get a good sniffing, and then pet the dog gently on her head.

All the terror and fright vanish from Rose's face as a calmness washes over her. She lowers herself to her knees and reaches out to the puppy, asking, "Hey, little guy. Are you lost?" The dog continues to wag its tail, barking in response. Rose can't help but laugh, her fear replaced by joy as she scoops the puppy into her arms. The pup showers her with affectionate licks, and she exclaims, "Aren't you cute?" Engulfed in newfound happiness, Rose carries the puppy close, feeling a sense of companionship and warmth in their connection.
