Piter said firmly. Elder gave Piter a questioning look, the old man barely left the camp so his knowledge of the region's development was lagging behind. However, there was a different feeling every time Piter mentioned the blind wolf's name. "Can you give me a description of the blind woman, Piter!" pleaded Elder. Piter stared at the pack elder for a moment, then turned to the Alpha. Harlan nodded. Then Piter smoothly explained how the blind wolf had come to their pack. The Elder shook. "How could you be so cruel to her, Alpha Harlan? Wouldn't a mother figure cross your mind? Outrageous."

The elevator doors slid closed, breaking the moment. "Mommy, we missed it," Zia said, tugging her hand. "It’s okay, sweetheart. That elevator’s not for us," Jade whispered, heart pounding. No one dared to share a lift with the CEO. But why was he using the common elevator today? He had his own private one. Her knees felt weak. I don’t hear him move. He stands tall in a perfectly tailored charcoal suit. His white cane, detailed with subtle gold swirls, rests in his left hand. Dark lenses shield his eyes, his expression unreadable.

A sigh escaped his mouth as he reached the car. Glancing back at the door, he felt a wave of self-loathing wash over him for reasons he couldn’t quite place. Looking around, he put his iPad on the car roof and took out a cigarette, lighting it up. Drake fell deep into his memories of her. The first time he saw her was like witnessing a ray of sunshine in that filthy, pigsty of a place called the human auction house. Even amidst the despair and darkness, she had sparkled—a vision of light that felt almost impossible to look away from.
