The scene was getting somewhat terrifying. Penelope’s eyes sank, and she said coldly, “What do you think you’re doing? This is the Zachary family’s cemetery! Should I just watch from the sideline instead?” Eugene said with a blank expression. “She was the one who came here to ruin the funeral. Jacklyn held Theodore's hand as they bought their tickets and stepped into the park. The moment they got through the gates, Theodore took off toward the nearest ride. They'd just joined the line when a sharp voice cut through the crowd. "Jacklyn? You're still here?" Penelope. During the show's filming, Theodore had stolen the spotlight from Noah more than once—something Penelope had quietly fumed over. That was why she'd gone after Irene. It was her way of punishing Jacklyn and backing her into a return to Malapi. And now, here Jacklyn was, strolling through an amusement park with Theodore like none of it had ever happened. She clasps her hands nervously. Penelope walked slowly down the hall. In spite of her gentle dress, she patrolled everyone like a queen on an outing. She put her hands on her belly again, as if there was a round belly somewhere -- but there wasn't. There was only her flat belly, and she rubbed it gently against her white dress, looking as gentle as a real mother, and then she announced: "The father is an alpha from the Black Valley Pack, Charles Maclean!" I pull onto Sunset Avenue, pull into the immaculate driveway, type in the code for the gate and when it opens, I pull my car into the same spot as when I left. I leave my new clothes in the trunk of my car and slothfully walk to the front entrance. Instead of going inside, I sit on one of the steps of the beautiful staircase. Her mother was lucky she loved her as this was pure and utter torture. “Why am I here?” Evan asked, escorting his grandmother to her seat. They were sitting in the front row, with a great view of the catwalk. “You’re my date,” Penelope said, smiling. She pulled an elegantly embroidered silk fan from her purse and began to wave it in front of her. “Did you have somewhere else to be?” “Yes, at home, watching the game,” Evan murmured, sitting down next to her. “Now, now. Would you rather watch a bunch of sweaty men fight over a ball or beautiful women in revealing clothes?” Penelope teased.

"Ms. Lodge, this… this is Penelope's keychain! She keeps it with her every day. She even told me you gave it to her for her birthday and that she really, really treasures it…" Ms. Bronson's words crashed down on Mom like a bolt of lightning. Mom snapped back to herself, but she still refused to accept reality. She shook her head hard, muttering over and over, "No, this is impossible. It's impossible! I’m just contemplating if I want to head home or if I want to stay curled up a little while longer when a voice interrupts my thoughts. “Hey Shifter. She doesn’t seem nervous around me at all which is unusual. Up close I can see that her hair is definitely white, pinned up in some complicated hairstyle. I can also tell that her eyes are dark, so dark they are nearly black and that she smells like the ocean. I can’t see her mark anywhere, but I doubt this woman is human. Mom whipped out her credit card and handed it to her telling her to spend as much as she liked as a reward and instructed her to keep it a secret and make sure the grand Luna didn't come to know about it before she walked out of the room leaving me standing awkwardly with Penelope who also looked to be having the same feeling.
