"You'll see," I say, trying to keep my voice steady. "Are you okay?" Penelope asks, studying my face. "You seem nervous." "I'm fine," I lie. "Just excited to show you something." We drive toward the lake. Penelope doesn't realize where we're going until I turn onto the familiar road. "The lake?" she asks. "Why are we going to the lake?"
