LIAM’S POV

“I won’t repeat myself again, Daemon. Stop”

My wolf growled in my head again but I ignored him. He was getting on my nerves with all the growling he was doing and I was not in the right mood to find out why he was anxious. I was just coming from a meeting at the Packhouse where my father had annoyed me. He just gave me the final ultimatum - to find a mate before the month runs out or he’d force me to mate another woman who wasn’t my mate. I was looking for a place to blow of the steam but my wolf wasn’t helping matters.

I was standing on the bailey, right in front of the Packhouse, gazing steadily at the dark woods. I was getting more angry and frustrated as I stood there, so I decided to go for a run in the end. I shifted, allowing my wolf take over before running into the woods.

I ran straight to the boundary and was surprised to discover that there was no soul there. There were paw marks everywhere, so I discerned there had been a kind of fight or attack that had happened. I decided to move further into the neutral territory that divided both Packs so as to know what really happened. As I sneaked through the wood I continued to wonder what might have happened. Had my Beta and the other wolves been captured, or killed? Was I walking into a trap? Those were the questions that went in and out of my head as I briskly ambled down the path, as cautious as it comes.

That’s when the sweet smell of Strawberries and citrus hit me. It had this invisible force that made me begin to sniff immediately. “Mate!” My wolf purred happily before it began to sniff everything around. Occasionally I looked around, wondering how my mate could have been in the neutral territory. There were no females among the warriors that guarded the Pack boundary. The thought that my mate might be a male comes to my mind but I push it aside, already dreading it.

The scent of my mate continued to get stronger as I went deeper into the woods. I was overwhelmed with joy but I did not let my guard down as I wondered if this was some kind of bait that the enemy wanted to use to lure me into some kind of danger; and the absence of the warriors made it look more of a reality.

My wolf whined happily as soon as I stepped into the neutral territory, I knew she wasn’t far away. But despite that there was still a soupcon of anxiety in Damon.

“What is the problem?” I asked, wondering why his anxiety was growing by the second.

“Our mate…” He said, sniffing the air loudly before wincing “Our mate is being attacked.” Daemon restlessly began to search for any traces of her frantically, her scent was everywhere but we did not know which path to follow.

I tried to mind-link my Beta but he refused to answer me. I growled in anger, wondering why Logan was being a d*ck. I tried a second time but it didn’t go through, so I decided to go straight ahead, down the path that led to the Werewolf Pack. There was no moon, so they wouldn’t be outside their Pack. Unlike werewolves, we had the ability to shift anytime we wanted and we were also gifted with excellent eyesight, sense of smelling and hearing. Werewolves could only have such abilities whenever they shifted under the full moon. If there was no full moon, they they wouldn’t be able to shift.

I quickened my pace, wondering what Logan was playing at. Soon I began to her voices in the distance. I could hear the terrified screams of people as they were being ripped apart. At the same time, my mate’s scent was getting stronger and stronger.

I could also hear wolves growling and snarling, I was very close. Skidding through and underbrush, I could see a clearing. Logan was there, grabbing my Mate on her jaw, he was hurting her!

I was stunned and enraged at the same time. He soon shoved her down and began to choke her. That’s when I decided it was enough. Just as he began to draw up her dress, I yelled from behind. “Stop!”

Logan turned around sharply when he heard my voice.

“How dare you touch my mate!” I growled, running towards him before lunging for his throat. He managed to push me off but I had already sank my fangs into his hand, tearing into it before he could react. His hand was broken, and limp. He yelled, tapping his other hand on the ground.

“How dare you!” I stepped over Logan adn walked towards the other men. They moved back, their heads lowered while they beat their tail as a sign of surrender.

“Allow me to kill all of them” Daemon asked but I declined immediately. “That’s ridiculous, but I will deal with them later.”

“We are sorry, Alpha. We had no idea she is your mate, besides she is a werewolf” One of the men explained. My eyes widened in shock as I turned around immediately. My mate, a werewolf?! Turning around, I gazed at her, the affectionate feelings disappearing as anger took its place. My wolf began to growl quietly, before snapping at her, baring its teeth in a snarl.

“Stop, Daemon. We can’t kill our mate!” I yelled at my wolf who stopped immediately, still snarling at her. She was scared, and was shaking as though she was epileptic. She was curled up, her jet-black, long hair covering her face as she bent down, sobbing.

I was in in between the devil and the deep blue sea at the moment. I couldn’t afford to look weak in front of my subordinates who would tell my father that I had spared a werewolf, and at the same time I couldn’t kill my mate. One of the rules I had grown up with was to hate anything that concerned werewolves. My father said they were evil, and that they needed to be exterminated at all cost. But how could a werewolf be my fated mate? I wondered, still staring at her.

We were meant to be enemies, I was meant to kill her the moment I set my eyes on her. But I couldn’t understand the desire I felt towards her
