I leaned on the desk and looked around the building absentmindedly until my eyes finally settled on a small sign hanging on a table covered with a neat stack of books. “Warning: The Library is Not Responsible for Nightmares!” I read out loud, walking over to look at the books. Well-worn volumes with pink skulls grinning back at me from stickers on their spines. Dracula. Frankenstein. The Invisible Man.

Never open an email from an unknown source, much less click a link embedded in random emails. I never thought that such a simple thing as email could cause someone a tremendous headache. Well, technically, we won’t know what the effect of my best friend’s ‘fun’ escapade would do to Xavier. When Penny began doing her so-called ‘investigation,’ I heard her curse and grumble like the grouchy child that she is.

I punched the bridge of my nose and rubbed my temples, telling the stress that had chained me to release me from it's shackles. The book was named in the deep and it was about some girl named Hephzibah and it was pretty interesting and scary the way my baby sister had told it with a touch light under her chin, illuminating her face and weird canines. Chapter 1 The bookstore smelled like fresh coffee and old paper, the way it always did on event nights. Elena Reyes stood at the front of the packed reading room, microphone in hand, watching twenty kids and their parents lean forward as she finished the last chapter of the bedtime story. Laughter rippled through the crowd. A little girl in the front row clapped so hard her pigtails bounced. Then her phone buzzed on the podium. Once. Twice. Three times. She ignored it until the applause died down. Only then did she glance at the screen.

Not the terrifying intensity underneath every joke that made my chest tighten whenever he got too quiet. But acknowledging it would mean acknowledging myself too. And I wasn't ready for that. So instead, I grabbed another tray of drinks and pretended my life wasn't slowly turning into a terrible decision wrapped in tension and stolen midnight fucks with a much younger man. "Lilith." I froze slightly. Oh fuck.

I hurriedly pulled out my textbook, pretending to be a model student. Penny shifted beside me, her brows furrowed as she reached down and picked something up from the floor. "What’s this?" she asked, holding up a small object. My blood ran cold. A yringe. My fingers moved faster than my brain as I snatched it from her hand, clutching it so tightly that my knuckles turned white. My heart pounded. Shit. I must have accidentally dropped it when I pulled out my textbook. "Okay…" Penny drawled, narrowing her eyes at me. "You might want to start talking. Is that some kind of deadly weapon? Are we killing someone? Tell me, so I can at least prepare myself mentally ? Just give me a name, and I’ll...

I doubt I could hold my sounds any longer. “Maybe she left? Maybe something happened with Leonard?” Helen asked from the kitchen. “But she wouldn't leave without telling us, would she?” Lauren answered. They quieted down, and then their footsteps approached the living room. “Did you check in here?” Lauren asked. My eyes widened, but I continued sucking on Mr. Albert's cock like he wanted me to. I forced him deep down my throat and gagged quietly on it. His hand pushed my head down further on him and forced me to stay there.
