I flipped the next paper, and froze. I looked over at him sleeping soundly on the bed and looked back at the drawing. Why would he draw this? It was an image of a lady with a red cloak. He had colored her with red. Then she was surrounded by green bushes. There were small rocks around the area. But what caught my attention the most, was his illustration of the pool of blood on the floor and a small child drowning in it. It was definitely the nightmares. I flipped through the other papers and saw other strange but similar drawings. A red eyed owl. An old house. And the last one was a drawing of an ancient Greek symbol. I couldn't place what it was.

It was hard. Josh wanders in, still in his dinosaur pajamas, and climbs into Mike's lap without hesitation. "Mike, want to see my drawing?" "Always, buddy. What did you make?" My eyes widen as my fingers trail over the drawing, careful not to smudge the pencil. "It's me." The detail is insane. I couldn't have been in the water for more than ten minutes.

And that was okay. Today I was helping Micah, a thirteen-year-old with a shaved head, hoodie sleeves always tugged down over their palms, and the eyes of someone who’d seen more than they should’ve. They weren’t chatty, but they liked drawing. Their sketchbook was filled with figures that resembled comic book heroes, quiet and fierce, with eyes always cast in shadow. They were hunched over a new page now, sketching a person standing in the center of swirling chaos. The figure held a long sword in both hands, the blade resting downward, tip touching the ground. Not raised. Not slashing. Just… there.

She laughed and hugged me tightly, she was half a head taller than me, but it wasn't awkward at all. "You really don't have to." I said, smiling at her, only now could I take in the full effect of how much stress this had caused her. Her deep brown hair was pulled into a messy bun on top of her head, a pencil shoved into it, and her shrug's sleeves were shoved above her elbows, where eczema sat red and irritated and brought forth by stress. "Here's the drawings." I said as I pulled a folder filled with 205 different drawings. "I threw in a couple alternates, and you can rearrange them however you think they fit best. Oh!" I pulled out another paper filled with little boxes with intricate des
