When I turned back around, Peter was standing directly in front of me. He hadn't made a sound as he moved, his coiled, panther-like grace completely catching me off guard. He was too close. The woodsy, expensive scent of his cologne immediately crowded out the smell of the fresh espresso, and I was suddenly hyper-aware of how short I was compared to his imposing six-foot-two frame.
He didn't say a word as he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a brand-new, sleek black iPhone. He slid it across the matte-black counter, right into my personal space.
