Phantom Artwork Novels & Stories

ARIA’S POV The day of the event, The Horizon Art Gala, arrives, and everything is meticulously prepared. Julien has kept his plans close to the chest, but tonight, he will reveal the surprise he has been keeping from the media and the public; me and my artwork, "The Abyss," an abstract piece that captures the depths of human emotion.

She was pointing at a painting—a vast, white canvas with a single, jagged red line through the center. "Who curated this show, Marcus?" "She did. But the benefactor chose the theme. They called it 'The Smoke and the Mirror.'" Rafferty walked toward the painting. He didn't see the art. He saw the texture of the paint. It wasn't just red. It was thick. Clotted. It looked like the rust on the warehouse door. His phone buzzed. Do you like the view from the shard, Raffy? The floor feels solid, doesn't it?

"Why reveal yourself?" "Because the game is more interesting if both players know the board. Consider this my introductory move. The funds I took are being used to establish a decentralized archive. A true commons for digital art, proofed against any single entity's control—yours, a government's, anyone's. It will exist in the cracks. A little chaos in your order." Jay studied the phantom. This was not a rival seeking territory. This was an ideologue, an artist of chaos. A new, unpredictable variable.

He said desperately and I followed, tearing away the seal, his expression told me it’s going to be something breath-taking and he placed his hand on his chest. “To, Dawn Amber Eldorado,” I read, my breath stuck, it must be Kai’s doing. A smile threatened to burst forth from my lips, knowing he was thoughtful enough to retain my mother’s name. “Team Animaniac, congratulates you for being the number 1 artist on Weekly Charts of New York times for two months,” my eyes wide, “and would like to give you an offer to work on an upcoming Anime, ‘The ‘Ed series’, we’d love to work with a talented artist like you and are awaiting your response eagerly.

, Elaine stated, and resumed clicking on the art in front of her while Phoebe looked at it together with her until it got to a particular art. “Stop! Stop!!”, Phoebe screamed, making Elaine jump in shock. “Who painted this?” she asked, bending over a little “This was painted by someone we don’t know. There is nothing about the person except that they go by the name Umbra”, Elaine replied. “Umbra? Makes sense”, Phoebe remarked with a satisfied tone. “What do you mean by that?” Elaine asked, turning to her “Search for the name for me, I want to see their other works”, Phoebe instructed, and Elaine searched him out within seconds.

It laid out the pattern so clearly, so logically, that anyone reading it couldn’t help but see it. And at the bottom of the article, beside the text, was my painting. No title, no explanation, just a single line: “Image provided by an independent artist.” There she was — the girl standing tall, her hands resting gently on her belly, light pouring out from her, bright and unbroken, while shadows loomed behind her but couldn’t reach her. No hidden codes. No secrets. Just me. Just us. For the first ten minutes, nothing happened. We stared at the screen, refreshing over and over, waiting for the comments to load, for the first reactions to come in.
