We were tucked away in a corner where the only other patrons were high-end art dealers who were too busy with their commissions to notice the woman with the bloodshot eyes and the shaking hands. I looked down at the screen. It was a social media profile of a woman—vibrant, bold, and undeniably younger. Her feed was a curated mess of neon lights, expensive cocktails, and a face that was the definition of modern beauty. And there, in every second photo, were her lips. Painted in that exact, sickeningly sweet shade: Soft Nude Pink.

“I love the matching grey. Seriously, Annie, you did it again! This is like witchcraft! I can’t imagine pairing hot pink with grey!” “I was beginning to worry when you said ‘hot pink and grey’. But then you showed the pictures and—my god—they looked gorgeous!” B.A.D’s Vice President was clapping too. Annie bowed and lifted a proud beam at her audience. “I thought, how best to project a playful yet innocent image. And viola! The salon is a little white building with a hot pink trim and a front door that matches. It looks cute, kind of like what I would imagine for the barbies that I played with as a young child. When we walk in though, the pink is a little less dramatized as almost all of the surfaces are a gleaming stainless steel with just some slight hot pink trim running through the building. Most of the surfaces that are not steel are white though. It looks very bright and open.

She set her painting on the easel with a dramatic flourish, stepping back like she’d just unveiled a masterpiece. It was… a pink flower. A single, delicate, annoyingly perfect pink flower, sitting in the middle of a white canvas. Soft, pastel petals, a golden center, and a few green leaves curling daintily at the edges. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. She just made me hate the color pink. Miss Lia beamed, clapping in excitement. “Lovely, Janice! Tell us about your inspiration.” Janice flipped her hair again, her eyes never leaving mine. “Well,” she started, clearing her throat “I wanted to paint elegance. Something simple, yet sophisticated. You know, not messy.”

"Look at this font instead. Do we prefer the minimalist serif or the bold modern for The Era Society cover page?" ​"Minimalist serif," Bianca answered from her desk, her eyes fiercely focused as she aligned our core budget spreadsheets. She hadn't looked up in two hours. "It keeps the high-society aesthetic. If we're pitching to the student administration board tomorrow afternoon, the presentation needs to look like a luxury lookbook, not a standard campus flyer." ​I forced a tight smile, dragging my eyes away from my silent phone. "Right. Cream, espresso, gold. We present a lifestyle, not a club."

Eventually she pulled out another palette. Pastel tones. Soft lavender. Powder blue. Muted blush pink. Cream. Silver accents. And immediately something inside me settled. “Oh.” Tims noticed instantly. “Yes,” she said smoothly. “This feels more like them.” It really did. Soft enough to feel magical. Elegant enough to age well in pictures. Still playful without becoming overstimulating. “Silver accents create light reflection,” Tims explained while sliding another sample toward me. “Children respond emotionally to softness and shimmer more than overwhelming brightness. This palette feels dreamy instead of chaotic.”

MIA "You didn't answer my question. Do you like it?" I nodded. "I do." "Or, you want me to pink it all up for you?" I furrowed my brows, letting out a chuckle. "What? Pink it all up?" He nodded. "Yeah. You love pink studs, don't you?" I chuckled. "I could change the desk and chair to pink ones. Get you something like a portrait of Cardi B or Nicki Minaj for the wall. They wear pink mostly though."

"Mike, you mentioned that you reserved a car for me. There's only one, right?" "Yeah! It's here? Doesn't it look great? Hayden said you like pink, but I think pink is too childish-looking, so we went for a silvery-pink color. It looks more silver in the distance and turns pinkish when you get closer.
