THE REJECTION
I wanted her to send me off with a smile, not tears.
“No, Mother, I’ll never leave you,” I said gently as I moved closer to her. “If you ever need me, I’ll come running back to you. Just don’t cry. I want to see you smiling today. That’s what will make me happy.”
She nodded, trying to hold back her tears, and smiled. “It’s okay. This is a happy day. So, no tears.”
“I agree, no tears, Mother,” I said, hugging her tightly. We both laughed softly, wiping away any sign of sadness.
