Nick was charming in his own way, thoughtful without being pushy. He bought Clara and me matching charm bracelets, claiming they were “friendship souvenirs.” Clara squealed like a child, dragging me to every boutique in sight.
When Nick handed me a sleek new phone, I froze.
“I can’t accept this,” I said, holding it out to him.
