Tomorrow, I would be choosing peace over conflict, safety over love, myself over Christian. And for the first time in months, that felt like the right choice. Even if it scared me. Even if it hurt. Even if it meant leaving everything I'd ever known behind. Because sometimes the only way to find yourself was to lose everything else first. And maybe that's what I needed to do. Maybe I needed to lose everything so I could find out who I really was. Maybe I needed to disappear so I could finally appear. Maybe I needed to run away so I could finally come home.

That girl—perhaps she was my true self, a whispering angel reminding me of my worth and the importance of holding onto dreams. With trembling hands, I grabbed my journal from the bedside table, my heart pounding with urgency, and began to write, pouring my thoughts onto the pages as dawn started to stretch its tentative fingers over the horizon. It wasn’t until we entered our first lockdown, that I found myself furloughed and decided to give something a go to keep my ever busy and flustered mind, calm. So I decided to write a novel. I cast aside the negativity from my schoolteacher and threw myself into my imagination and created Finding You. Sadly, my furlough didn’t last as long as I had hoped, after all, I welcomed the break, and soon enough I was thrust back into the high-pressured work life I had always known and my book had to take a back seat, however now it has finished. I have completed my first novel and stuck a middle finger up at my English teacher who impacted my 15-year-old former self.
