I look at all the people walking out, talking, laughing, and being together. Yorick would be an amazing father and that thought has my body responding much more strongly than I would have expected. I suddenly feel a visceral need to give this man pups, pups that look like the two of us. “It’s fine, Wendy. We can talk tonight or tomorrow, Shakespeare,” Hacker says. “Shakespeare?” Wendy asks. “You haven’t met Zach. He gave us all nicknames when he first met us. I got mine for obvious reasons,” he says. “Not all of us get cool codenames,” he says much more softly. Wendy blushes and I gasp.

Megan says, grinning at me. “Deep waters, then,” Zach says. “Nah, he’s not in any danger. Not with us around anyway. And it’s not like Hellfire is going to let anyone hurt her little bro,” Megan says. “You’re killing my vibe, Megan,” Zach growls at her. “You’re losing your touch, Nickname,” she growls back. “Nickname?” I ask, making Zach growl and both Megan and Chase laugh. “Zach likes to make up nicknames for others, so one of our group of friends nicknamed him Nickname. It stuck,” Chase says, punching Zach in the arm and laughing.

We have not even talked but I felt like making friends with her. My mind went back to the incident that happened during the chemistry class. “I bet you wouldn’t be able to come up with one anyway,” “How about nugget?” I giggle. Okay, it’s officially a waste to fear John. “That’s actually kinda cute,” John looks sour. “Shrimp then?” “Overused,” I reply. “Try harder,” “Short stuff?” Smiling, I shake my head. “All those nicknames are cute and kinda fitting since I’m short,” “How about Marina the great?” Embarrassment finds my cheek, and I freeze, eyes caught on the angel who studies me briefly before his lips turn grim.

CHAPTER TWO | POISON IVY IVY KING After my speech of random meaningless words, the whole cafeteria went unusually silent. The sound of a pin dropping would have been clearly heard with how silent it was. The girl from earlier, Victoria, suddenly stood up and yelled. “The chick is a fucking freak. She called herself poison Ivy earlier." That was how I got the nickname ‘Poison Ivy.' Apparently, my presence and existence in this world irritates people and everyone needs to stay away from me.

I silently remarked. And honestly, Dogman’s nickname was pretty catchy. Maybe I should give myself a nickname too. “Queen Kate”? Cold, sharp, and all business. Yeah. I think it suits me just fine.
