Ivy shifted. Her breathing hitched, then her eyes snapped open. She bolted upright, unfocused, staring at the corner of the ceiling as if something only she could see was waiting there.
"Ivy? Baby, what is it?" Maya moved to her side, but Ivy didn't seem to see her.
"Make them stop," Ivy whispered, her voice trembling. "Mommy, make the scratching stop."
Maya froze. "What scratching? There's nothing there."
"It's loud! They're screaming but they aren't using their mouths!" Ivy pressed her hands over her ears, her face contorting in pain. "They're right outside!"
