The blue Origin-Code vein flared to life, syncing with the beat of his heart. Dax flexed his fingers. The movement was entirely frictionless, completely silent. "I integrated the Shogun’s shunt-drive into the sub-ether matrix," I explained, tapping the silver hourglass component on my desk. "You can't freeze time that takes too much ambient energy. But if you push the Origin-Code into the knuckles, you can trigger a micro-shunt. A localized burst of hyper-acceleration. Your left hook will literally land before the enemy's optics can even process that you threw it."

She was well-loved. Until the start of the fifth grade, when their hormones were coursing through their blood. It was there all the changes took place. Shifters mostly exhibit their nature at the zenith of their tenth year. If you’re going to become a reptile, you prefer the heat and summer months to the fall and winter. They wore less clothing during summer, so the heat penetrated their skin, while during fall and winter, they bundled up to the point they were little penguins.

Morat bowed, his face showing sincere loyalty. Siron wanted to scream a warning. Don’t trust him! But this was the past. It had already happened. The scenes shifted again, faster now, like fragments of a nightmare. Morat leading Alaric’s armies, waging war against enemies. He fought with gallant bravery, his body moving with speed and strength beyond that of a normal man. In the heat of battle, his body changed, growing larger, skin hardening into scales, claws sprouting from his hands. His true shifter form. He rampaged across the battlefield, tearing through enemies, but always returned to human form once the fighting ceased. Alaric’s forces won because of him.

I ask her. "We're probably going to need to shift. I'm not going to lie to you. When we shift the first time, it's going to be excruciatingly painful. Your body hasn't had time to change its structure, so it's going to feel like your body is ripping apart, but I promise it will only feel like this the first time." I'm not looking forward to the pain, but at least it will only be once. "Okay, when should we do it?" I ask anxiously. I want to get back to Shaun. Before Skye can answer, the van door opens. Lester and Adam look at me with sly smiles on their faces.

"But, if I have to talk to you, then you're gonna have to answer a few of my questions as well." "Well aren't you an opportunist? Trying to turn an interrogation back on the interrogator...?" The Shifter smiled softly, a move that not only emphasized his incredible mouth....but the four slightly sharp teeth, two on each side of his front teeth. Pointy canines that no mortal would ever sport. The sight of them shocked him as much as the Shifters smile tried to charm him. "Fine, let's do this. A limit of ten questions for each of us.....I believe that sounds fair enough?"

“I’m in the secured room off of Ethan’s office. I can hear them fighting in the pack house though. Kev is out there. I can’t hear him though and I don’t want to distract him by reaching out through the link.” My eyes narrowed in on the turn to take onto their territory. Holding tight, I started the turn early. The wheels, very loudly, protested against the sudden shift in trajectory. The whole back end of the car started to fishtailed but this car was a rear-wheel drive. Once I managed to lock in the wheels, the drift helped us continue down the road and I felt the shift of the territory in matter of minutes.

He can't teach me something that should've been a part of my life since I was a pup. Then, there's the painful concept of semi-shifting, as he calls it. It's the impressive ability to shift a certain part of your body rapidly to make it stronger. So, you'd throw a punch at your opponent and shift partially, making the blow almost deadly. I can't grasp this whatsoever. I find it impossible to shift only one part of me and have no guidance or the damndest clue on how to do it. Instructor Wylde offers no advice. I'm standing amidst a relatively large group of people but I've never felt more alone in all my life.

I’m glad she understands that is what I need right now. I’ve spent most of this week with Tyson, Greta, and Maddox. They have all been helping me with sparing, calisthenics and running, aiding me in improving my performance times. Shifters tend to focus on using all of their senses versus just sight, like humans tend to do. I have learned quite a bit from them and because their training is most usually about pack protection, the physical aspects they’ve focused on are entirely different than what I focus on when working out with the Packers.

But there had been absolutely no changes in my body. “Look here.” Ash pointed at the chart explaining the Strains. They were divided into three subs: Shifter. Channeler. Psyon. “In short, shifters turn into animals. Channelers draw their powers from nature. And psyon, they work with the mind,” Ash explained. Her eyes were fixed on the hologram screen in the corner of the training room. “Which one do you fall under?” My data didn’t show any sub; it just showed a negative mark.
