There was a flash in his mind, and for the first time he was open and vulnerable. He was staring at a pregnant woman who had a little boy hugging her leg. They must have been Rosa and Kiowa. I saw the fear in her eyes, the anguish in her face as she reached down to hold her son against her. But Ash didn’t go to her to comfort her, instead he ran into the forest, he must have thought he would see her again.

I saw Jomar and Eddy running towards the candy aisle. “What are you guys doing here?” I asked, putting my hands in my pockets. “We’re buying stuff for our party tomorrow.” Trisha replied. I noticed that Ash wasn’t there. “Your babe is over there, she’s coming. You’re coming with us, dude!” Blue laughed at his own joke and pointed to where Ash was coming from. I saw Ashiannie’s blank expression as she approached us. She was pushing her shopping bags with ease. She’s so beautiful.

" it won’t change how I feel...I’m in love with her, I’ll die for her if I have to.” His eyes narrowed. For a moment, I thought he might pull his gun and end it right there. But instead, he turned his back. “Go prepare for the mission,” he said coldly. “If you don’t come back... then maybe this problem solves itself.” And with that, he walked out, leaving me in the silent ruins of everything I thought I could control. The only reason Aslan hasn't banished me yet was because I'm his only successor, no one else can take the crown except me.

Ash growls low. I shiver at his tone and look away shaking my head. I honestly don't know. I recently got my strength back too. "Damn it..." he growls and his hand trembles with rage.

"You never cease to disappoint me." I didn’t care about his opinion. He paused, studying me for a moment, then asked, "So, are you going to continue your journey to the Bloodfang pack, or are you staying here for a while?" "Oh, no," I replied, standing and stepping out of the bath. I cracked my neck to relieve some of the dominant tension and control. "I’m leaving now. I’ve had my fun here." Ash's lips twisted into a smile, but there was something else in his eyes. It wasn't usual. "You know, Rowan Frostbite was here," he said casually. "Because you stopped him from rejecting Aria, he seems to want her again."

It was the first time he had said Asia Song's name out loud. The gangs came in, others to do business, others with the instincts to start a fight, and others with their fake flashy jewelry, but they all found the same thing. Pools of blood and nobody in the vicinity. "What happened here?! Is this the right place?!" "Where are the kids?" Nobody could figure out the answer at the moment. Asia watched from a distance. He had decided to listen, even with his stubborn nature, because he thought the Phoenix's reasoning was rather sensible. He had already sent the librarian home, petrified with shock, but it did not bother him.

I keep my sobs quiet as I sneak out of the room. It’s still dark outside. I tiptoe throughout the house until I get to the backyard. Then I let Ash take over and stretch her legs. We run through the forest, but it’s not the same thrill it used to be. Ash lets out a mournful howl. The ache never relents. She runs along the border, only stopping when she catches the scent of Aurora Flame. A dark figure stands near the border. Ash takes a fighting stance, but the figure holds his hands up in defeat. She growls as he moves closer to us. The figure steps into the moonlight, sending relief over Ash and me.

I’ve barely eaten, barely slept, taking on extra responsibilities to avoid being around anyone. “Archie…Help me understand,” Ash pleads, his hands resting on his knees. When I look over at him, I don’t see anger in his eyes, more like some combination of hurt and confusion. We never keep secrets from each other. I was certainly hurt that he took a couple of days to tell me that he was mated to Saph. This situation is different. “What’s there to understand, Ash? She’s destined for me, and me for her.” Yaya tightens her hold around my neck, and I can’t help but melt into her.
