She was back in Umuaka. The village square glowed under moonlight. Elders sat in a circle, their lips sealed, eyes heavy with tradition. Mama stood at the edge, her silence loud, her hands wringing her wrapper.
Promise stepped forward, barefoot on the clay. She opened her mouth, ready to speak, but no sound came. Only echoes of drums, faint and far. Then, from the shadows, a girl’s voice rose—a younger version of herself, whispering: “If silence is survival, then breaking it is rebirth.”
