~Portia~ I’ve been dreading today for weeks now. I hate that I have to go back home, but I have no choice. My name is Portia Colby, but I go by Tia. I’m a part of the Emerald Lake pack, where my father is the head warrior, and my mother is a pack doctor. I have older twin sisters that are the apple of everyone’s eye. They are four years older than me and my father’s favorite. He dotes on them and spoils them. To him, they are his everything, and I’m just a mistake.

But he knew Landon had never been the merciful type. Besides his arm, his entire left side had already turned to black goo. Just when he thought he was toast, a calm voice floated down from upstairs. "Landon, don't kill him. I still need to ask him some questions." Jarold recognized it—that was Aria, the female arcane seeker with the Soul-Summoning Plaque. He couldn't wrap his head around what these two had going on. But the next thing he knew, all the nightmare fuel in front of him just disappeared. He could finally breathe again.

"This is a restaurant! You have to stop bringing them here!" She's still grinning, too delighted to care. "What? I got it on my way here. It's not my fault I have to work night shifts." I roll my eyes. "Norah!" someone calls out. "Oh, shit. Can you hold on to this for me for a while?" She shoves the item into my hands before I can refuse and I stare at her retreating figure in disbelief. Norah is the strangest person I've met. And if she wasn't my best friend, I would have sworn she was a witch because of all the weird stuff she's into. But she's such a sweet, innocent person, I don't know what I'd do without her.

He touched his lips. Rhea let out a sigh. “The personality of the body you took is what you will have until you return his body. Apparently, Axel Arcadia is going to be a friendly guy.” “Handsome too.” Azura added. Aspro shook his head in amusement, looking away from Hannah and to Azura. “Doris’ student, correct?” She nodded. “Yes. My name is Azura.” “Beautiful name. It’s a pleasure meeting you.”

His spoon stirred his potion in slow, deliberate circles. Clarette announced the expected names. Alpha Jaxon. Luna Selene. Political theater, nothing more. Then: "Prince Riven's black carriage was seen in the driveway. He's enrolled." Aurel's heart rate accelerated minutely. Riven Vorspina. The vampire heir's presence meant the political structure was forming as predicted. Necessary. Controllable. But Clarette had saved the best. "And — get this — the White Witch of the West, Lumira Duskbane, has returned from the grave, and is now crowned youngest High Arcanist of the Moon Seal in recorded history."

We were just watching him, doing sorts of things with his hands and fingers. "What the hell is he doing?" Justin whispered to me. "I don't know. Maybe some sort of spells? I really don't know," I said, without looking away from this strange man in front of us. "Some sort of ancient magic from the kingdom of Arcadia, I guess." Grey suddenly blurted out behind us. "I think he is like a mage of something like that." "Oh great tree of life. A symbol of beginning and end. Allow us to enter the great kingdom of Arcadia. Grace us with your overwhelming power. Anotchi Porta!"

Maria's eyes widened with disapproval as she politely broke free from the tight embrace. "Mother!" Jackson protested as he sprung up. Maria repeated it in her head again, mother? She was wrong about her boss...for now, she concluded. But how was his mother so young? "Uh, nice to meet you, ma'am. I'm Maria Gracia, Jackson's new PA," she said politely and watched the woman's face fall, flushing with disappointment. "Oh," her arms fell to her sides and she turned to her flustered son. "So, you treated Theodore that way for nothing?!"

"It is not trying to crawl in. It already knows how." The room went still. Not quiet and not peaceful, but still. Ryan leaned forward slightly, his focus locked on her. "Explain." Aria pressed her palms together as if she were trying to steady something inside herself. "It is not a creature," she said. "Not really. It is fragments." "Fragments of what?" Caleb asked. She hesitated. "Something old," she said finally. "Older than the kingdoms. Older than the wolves. Older than the witches."

For someone like Amaria -who isn't a mage like Teresa and Dove nor a mana using swordsman like Elex - she wouldn't stand a chance with a Horc, boost or no boost. The Horc opened its bloodshot eyes and gazed directly at Amaria making eye contact with her. Amaria gulped as she felt the intense bloodlust aura coming from the Horc. It roared hysterically and charged toward her. The mysterious figure snapped his fingers and Amaria fell to the ground.

Miya said, and luna Nesta nodded. “In that case, all of us represent Arcanes. All of us pick up properties from people around us to form an identity of our own. If we see on a broad scale, none of us have a unique identity of our own, we borrow identities of others now and then and dispose of parts of those identities like the skin of a snake. Don’t we?” I said. Luna Nesta smiled, “you are absolutely right, Diana. Maybe Zephyr is indeed normal because Arcanes are normal too. They are the invasive species of the Gloom forests.”
