Chapter 1 - Not What I wanted

Lee

I am in a dark room with no light coming through. I can smell the other rogues around me. How did I end up here? What happened again?

“We were attacked. Naturally we defend ourselves,” I hear Suaco, my wolf, speak in my mind. Yeah, I remember now. We were busy hunting. We made sure to stay clear of the border of the pack we smelled close by. Why did they attack us?

“I don’t know. And we are not the only ones,” Suaco added and I try to focus in this room. I hate it when there is no light in a room. I can usually see fine in the dark. One of my perks as a werewolf. I can also smell a human close by.

“Wait, why is there a human nearby?” I asked out loud and heard her gasp behind me. I turned around. Dammit, I am struggling to see anything here.

“I am trying to get our eyes used to this, give me a second or two,” Suaco added and I waited patiently. I know our eyes will start to glo neon right about now.

I could smell the fear of the human behind me. My vision gets into focus and we have night vision going for us. This is an extra ability we have too. Suaco always said that we are made for stealth. We are fast, agile and can disappear into the shadows of anything. These abilities have made us excellent hunters.

At the moment I can not tell what her hair- or eye-colour is. Night vision does not allow me to see that at the moment. My eyes will hurt pretty bad if the light would come on right this moment though.

“Hello,” I attempted to speak to her. I saw her sitting on the floor against the wall, trying to hide herself from me. Her whole body is shaking and she is wounded. I can smell the fresh blood from her cuts. I don’t usually interact with others but I need to see how bad her wounds are.

I walked over to her and she jumped a bit at my touch. “Sorry, I just need to see how bad your wounds are,” I tell her what I am doing. She is not resisting me. She must be an omega or something.

“Shit, they are deep,” I slipped my tongue and I noticed chains on my, binding my ankles and wrists. Why am I not feeling this?

“This can be the reason why our night vision took a while to kick in. They must be silver chains delaying our powers,” Suaco gave her opinion and I can’t argue with it either. She is most of the time correct about these things.

I ripped my t-shirt a few times to get a few bandages for the wolfless girl with me in this cell. Yeah, we are in a cell, surrounded by silver bars. On each side of our cell are even more cages with more rogues in them.

Why did they put her in my cell? “Why did they put you in here? You are no Rogue,” I talked more to myself than anyone else.

“I am wolfless, I am useless,” she replied with a shaky voice. Dang, must suck to be in this pack.

“Let me check your wounds again,” I told her and this time she was even working with me by lifting up her shirt.

“This will take a few weeks to heal since you don’t have a wolf. I am so sorry about this,” I looked at her cuts and shook my heads in disappointment. She is naturally looking ahead of herself. Probably scared of looking me in the eyes.

“Why did they put you in my cage?” I asked, trying to get her calmer than she is right now.

“If you can look at the other cages there are other humans in with the rogues too. They are probably dead by now,” she responded and I took another look before I binded her wounds for her.

Oh, shit. She is right. There are lifeless bodies in every cell lying in a pool of their own blood. This must be why I picked up the human scent so strongly. “Dammit, what are these rogues? Monsters?” I asked and heard some of them growl. This frightened the wolfless girl.

“Don’t move. Stay right where you are. Don’t want you to go near the sides,” I added quickly as I looked back at her. She froze and I continued to get her wounds binded.

“What is your name?” I asked, trying to get her attention off everything that is going on with her right now.

“Emily Lune and yours?” She responded. I didn't think she would so quickly though.

“Lee, just Lee. I have been a rogue since I was five,” I responded, keeping the conversation going.

“Oh, wow. You don’t seem like the rogues I have seen so far in my life,” Emily also kept going with this.

“Yeah, I get that alot. I think it's because my wolf is an Alpha.”

“What? Really? An Alpha. So it is true that Alpha wolves can’t turn rogue?” Emily sounded impressed by this.

“Seems that way, yes,” I smiled at this. Not that she will see it.

“I did not turn yesterday on my 21st birthday either. So they threw me in here to be killed by the rogue that they threw in here too,” Emily finally gave the reason why she was in here. “They can’t even sell a wolfless girl as a slave to other packs,” she added sadly and at least we know what kind of pack we are dealing with.

“Oh, great. How did we get captured by a lame pack like this?” I spoke out loud and this caused Emily to giggle a bit. This is good. She has calmed down a bit and is semi looking at my eyes. Not fully making eye contact yet.

Suddenly my ears picked up shouting coming from outside. “Ah, I knew they would come,” we heard another female voice in another cell. We looked at her. She was standing close to the gate of her cell, looking ahead of herself into nothing. Probably seeing nothing just like the rest of them here.

She doesn’t look like one of us. Why is she here? I focused on Emily again and got her wounds binded so that they don’t bleed anymore.

“What is she talking about?” Emily asked as I saw her standing up.

I touched her shoulder and led her to the gate. “We are hearing commotion outside,” I explained what was going on and Emily nodded.

“Yeah, my pack is here to rescue me,” the she-wolf in the other cell added. “They will probably kill all of you,” sounded like she was saying we deserve death.

“Watch it princess, we might get out and decide to kill you first!” A male responded to her and I growled in agreement.

“Yeah, my human is still alive. We might be able to get out of here before they appear,” I added and I saw Emily nod as she was touching the silver bars that I made her touch so that she could feel where she was.

“Mine is alive too,” the she-wolf added. She said it as if it was difficult to keep the wolfless alive. She sounds like an entitled person.

“Oh, it was open?” I heard Emily whisper with surprise in her voice.

“This does not feel right,” I say what Suaco is saying in my mind so that Emily can hear it too. Emily looked up at my eyes and she bit her lip. She is probably believing me on this since she has no wolf to rely on like I do. Suaco has kept us alive all these years. She is my life.

I heard someone at the door on our left and I pulled Emily away from the gate. She was holding onto the gate, so it closed again. “Sorry, someone is coming,” I whispered in her ear as I stopped at the back against the wall. Dammit this wall is cold. My body shivers at the touch of it.

Suddenly we heard a lock break and I smell the burning of gunpowder. The men entering are serious. “Get down,” I whispered again in Emily’s ear and I covered my body over hers, even if she is taller than me. The other rogues started to growl and launch themselves at the men entering. They don’t care about the pain the silver bars are causing them. Stupid things.

“Kill those that are attacking us with no regard to their own safety,” I heard a guy say and shots started to get fired. Emily shouted in fear and suddenly the shots stopped. “Get light on the cages!!” The man gave more orders and I covered my eyes as the flashlights started to awake.

“Delta Troy!” I heard what she-wolf said and this made me frown. Delta is not a usual position in a pack. She is sounding scared and relieved at the same time. But she is also sounding fake, like she is acting. I don’t think she was scared to begin with.

“Sandy, you can be glad that you are the King’s favourite. He would have left everybody else to die here,” the man named Troy responded with disgust. I take it he is not one of her fans. I glanced at her, she did not know what to say to his comment.

“Delta, we have one here that is just looking at us,” I heard a guy say and someone walking around.

“Are you going to attack us?” Delta Troy asked and I glanced in that direction.

I saw a light coming our way and I hid my eyes again. This is gonna hurt if the light falls on them while I am trying to see in the dark. “Dad, we have two more here,” I can see the light moving over our bodies.

I also heard the delta move again. The squeak of the gate too. The footsteps are getting closer. “She is injured badly. Can you help her?” I asked as I let them see Emily first since they are not attacking us first.

Delta Troy is an older guy. He has grey short hair and grey eyes. Over his left eye he has a scar. I would say he is between the age of 40 and 50. Maybe 45, right in the middle of that range. He is much bigger than I am. Over 6 ft for sure.

My eyes have strated to adjust if I can see colors again.

I stepped away from them so that he could look at Emily. I watched as he looked at her wounds. “You did good with binding them,” he commented before nodding at someone at the door. That person rushed out suddenly.

“We will have someone here to help you,” Delta Troy spoke to Emily. Her body was shaking a bit but responded with a few nods. “Are you alright?” Delta Troy got up and he looked at me.

“Now is our change!” I heard Suaco shout and I let my iron blades appear out of thin air. This is one of my powers. “I am fine, thanks for the rescue!” I swing at him. He dodged it just in time, but when he wanted to stretch his hand out to me I was at the gate of the cell.

I dodged everyone else. Here and there one is getting a cut from me. I rushed up the stairs and saw keys in the door. I grabbed them before going outside. Urg, this is hurting my eyes. No one has noticed us outside yet and those inside will be on us soon. “Roof,” Suaco made me look up and I jumped up.

This is taking too much strength. We need to take these chains off as soon as possible. We almost fell as we barely made the jump. Luckily I can pull myself up with pure muscle strength. We roll onto the roof just in time too. I glanced over the edge at the group that had exited the dungeon entrance.

Okay, time to get this chain off. I sat up and started to check what key will work on this. Finally at the tenth key the chains fell open and I was released. I moved to the back of the building, scanning the distance we have to run for us to be in the woods again. It is not that far. I even look around to make sure that no one is around us. The scene looks clear. I move back to the front and through the keys far, into the area where there are more men.

I ran to the back and jumped off, but just as I was about to land, someone grabbed me by the neck and with incredible force, bashed me against the ground. Air is leaving my lungs, but I will not die here! Where did this guy come from!

I slashed at him with my right hand first, but he grabbed it, causing me to drop the knife. He placed his body weight on my middle, is he sitting on me? I slashed with my left hand next, but he released my neck and grabbed that hand, letting that knife fall too.

“Don’t shift!!” I heard him command. That was my next thing and I can feel I can't. What? How?

“Suaco?” I asked as I tried to shift.

“He is the Lycan King. Even rogues can’t reject him,” she responded and suddenly tried to get air into my lungs.

“Calm down,” Suaco added and I am trying to get calm so that I can breathe again.

My head is hurting. Did I hit my head that hard? My wrists are aching. Is he holding me that tightly? I growl at the guy and now I will try to bite him. His cold light blue eyes are just staring at me. “Alpha, she is…” I heard the Troy guy running to us.

“Get something to close her mouth and bind her,” the guy sitting on me spoke. “Be careful she bites,” he added as Troy brought a thick rope with him. Why would that guy just have this kind of rope with him?

I tried to bite him but he used that opportunity to get the rope into my mouth. I tried to struggle with my body again, but males are always so strong. And the king guy is holding my wrists in such a way that I can’t let more daggers appear out of thin air. This is frustrating.

Another guy is putting silver chains on me again with a collar this time. The chains are braided just like the collar. They look pretty. If I were a human, I might have worn this as jewellery. I tried to scratch the guy but the king growled and caused me to stop trying.

I looked at him again, growling. Showing my already exposed teeth. His eyes focused on them, probably because I can make them sharp even in my human form. I can do a lot of things in human form, like making my nails sharp or letting my hand become paw-like. Or make my legs animal like so that I can run better as a human.
