I want more of the minutiae: the enchanter figuring out how to purify water with a rune, the necromancer bargaining with spirits to locate forgotten caches, the illusionist hiding their settlement. That intimate, creative application of a limited magical skill set against a decaying world is the core of the theme for me. It's why I reread segments of 'The Fifth Season' so often—the scenes of building a community safehold using orogeny are just as tense as any battle.
