The problems that arose were a test of their genuine love. Emily's main goal was to visit her favorite bookstore, buying novels from some of her favorite authors to add to her personal collection. Even though there were now many e-book reading apps available, Emily didn't feel satisfied unless she had the physical copies of the books. Reading e-books was far more flexible, as she could read them anywhere without the hassle of carrying physical books.

At the bottom of the shelf, though, were a handful of romance novels—in English, no less. I pulled out a historical romance by a favorite author of mine. I hadn’t read this one, and I’d already finished the one romance I’d brought with me. I was a total bore and preferred to read printed books still. Probably because they smelled nice. Peter had decided to release preview copies as a digital e-book, and true to his word, the buzz was already making headlines. Rachel was thrilled at the attention “Legal Briefs” was receiving, only she wasn’t quite sure if all the hype was about her novel, or about Prelude’s entry into the electronic publishing revolution. As she dragged her exhausted body through the lobby of her apartment building at a quarter past midnight, she was too tired to care. As soon as Rachel opened the door to her apartment, she noticed the yellow light flashing the number 75 viciously on her answering machine, and she was afraid to even try to read her e-mail.

It was an apology, an explanation, and her book. He transferred the book file to his e-reader and he made himself comfortable in his armchair and he read. He read with the intention of finding those tell-tale signs to prove he was right, except he got so engrossed in the story that he forgot to look for them. He read for hours.

But it was the last thing she wanted now that she understood what she’d actually been asking. “I mean, sheesh. Paper books? Who reads those anymore?
