“We’ll call a doctor. We’ll figure this out. We’re gonna fight this.” But Brielle didn’t move. She just stood there—hand on her stomach, her name finally her own again—realizing that some prisons weren’t made of walls or rings or contracts. Some were made of biology. Some were growing inside her. To be continued...

everyone responds. "I know I've talked a lot about my late husband before. But I have a friend about to give birth, and I feel like tonight is about hope. About new chances. New lives," I start, looking at the faces of the people who have become my family in the past few months. "I loved someone besides Nick, I still do, but I've been distant, waiting until I'm ready. I wouldn't know what it means to be ready, and I wondered if I would ever feel that way until I heard these wise words in a Sandra Bullock movie; that woman is fantastic," I chuckled, and everyone laughed with me. "She was a woman in a rehabilitation clinic, and she asked her counselor, 'When will I be able to date again?'"

Ashley got a phone call and read the name on the display, it was Eric Fox, the president of the company that owned the prison. She slid her finger over the keypad and answered the phone, “Hello?” “This is Eric Fox, we need you in the prison as soon as possible, and there has been a security breach on the computer system.” “What does that mean?” Ashley asked. “Someone logged onto the computer in the maintenance department. It’s either a staff that’s still alive or a vampire, we don’t know and we have to find out before they blow up the building.”

Punishments varied depending on what you did wrong, and Jake had gotten his fair share. “Little Mike sends his regards,” the guard whispered as he walked past Jake. Jake shuddered and started cleaning up his cell. The next morning, in the showers, Jake was cornered by Little Mike. He was known as a prison breaker. He broke in all the new inmates and he was serving three life sentences. There wasn’t much more that the State could do to him. “If you play nice, it won’t hurt for long,” Big Mike said. “Go fuck yourself,” Jake said, cupping his hands over his groin.

“I don’t break. Not for him. Not on day 48. Not on day 56. Not ever.” _Silence._ Harmon stared. Long time. Then nodded. Once. “Good,” Harmon said. “Because if you break, he gets 15 years. If you don’t, he gets life. Without parole. No ‘monsters come back.’ No ‘3 weeks.’ He’s done. See you June 2nd. 9:00 AM. Don’t be late.” _Click._ _Thump-thump. Thump-thump._ 97 BPM. *1:17 PM. She stuttered while pinpointing out to the tv in Micheal's office which had its volume turned down. Michael slowly peeks at the flat-screen 50-inch television mounted on the wall. The journalist presenting the news about the release of Christina and other inmates had long disappeared off the screen. But a message continuously scrolled through the bottom of the television. ***The message**** Breaking news: The president has pardoned two thousand inmates and one of those pardoned is the comare also known as Christina walker who handed herself into the police five years ago. Happy Fourth of July to everyone and stay safe. ***End of message****

"No... this is impossible... the hospital records three years ago—" "The hospital records three years ago were falsified," Dr. Hughes interrupted sharply, his voice stern as he turned to Kieran. "Iris Whitmore is the sole HR-negative match in this city. She is the woman who saved your life, Kieran." Kieran turned his head slowly. His dark grey eyes locked onto Iris, filled with a sudden, overwhelming realization that shattered three years of lies in a single second.

Jack really hadn’t thought that far. “It’s fine. Even if they find out, it doesn’t matter,” he said while resting one arm on the couch. After a moment, he felt that was too casual and was about to pull his hand back when Jessie immediately caught his hand. She leaned against his arm and snuggled closer while watching the television. In a soft voice, she asked, “Did you go to prison because you broke the law? Or was it on purpose?” “No, it wasn't on purpose,” Jack replied.

“Yes, thank you.” “Well, don't just stand there, dear, get in.” The woman's voice carried an Upstate accent, but a different one from the goofy inmate who had unknowingly helped Janice with her prison break. Janice was no expert on localized accents and no idea where either of them had originated from beyond the magical (and scary) land of Upstate.
