I swallowed, eyes misting. “Thank you,” I whispered. “But promise me something?”
“Anything.” His voice was gentle now.
“Promise me you’ll read this too,” I said, tapping the book. “Not just to know the story, but to understand it. So you know why I can’t quit until I’ve unraveled every secret.”
He gave a small nod, folding his arms. “Deal. But only if you promise to look up every once in a while, and maybe go outside.”
