Then, at last, heavy snow began to fall, wrapping the world in a shroud of white. Ryder sat by the headstone as the storm piled snow upon his shoulders. It clung to his hair and brows, but he remained still, as though he had long since become part of the earth itself. "Lyra, I'm so cold," he whispered. His voice was fragile against the howling wind. "But I will not leave. I promised to protect you… even if the promise was far too late." He closed his eyes, letting the storm rage as he drifted into the fragments of their brief, beautiful time together.

Nolan's POV I didn’t answer right away.
