The sound wasn’t loud, but it was soul-breaking One note filled with fear broke through the air. Windows cracked, students screamed, and the Hearthstone flared gold in alarm. Within seconds, the academy emptied. Students ran into the courtyards, professors shouting orders, healers dragging the weak ones. Morwen stumbled out of her tower, robe half-torn, hair wild, clutching the megaphone like a lifeline.

“I hate this academy.” “Everyone does,” Soreya said. “The successful ones just learn to hate it productively.” They left the Hollow Residence together and crossed the lower path toward the central medical wing. The academy looked different in this false morning light. Less haunted at first glance, more architectural. The black stone towers rose against the dim crimson sky, and the silver-veined paths glimmered beneath their feet.
