I walked over to her, nudging her gently with my shoulder. "Look," I said, pointing out to a pod of dolphins breaking through the waves in the distance. They shimmered in the sunlight, scales iridescent and mane of rainbow fur around their necks. They were one of the more beautiful and gentle creatures the God of the Seas created. Ruby's face lit up, a bright smile spreading across her lips.
"They're amazing," she whispered, her voice filled with awe. She turned toward me, and for a second, I could almost forget everything; the darkness looming, the war, the chaos we left behind. Here, out at sea, it felt like we could be something more, something better.
