The pawnbroker, a weathered man with tired eyes, looked up from his newspaper as the bell above the door chimed. As I stood in the pawnshop, the store broker observed me with a mix of curiosity and professionalism as his grizzled beard joined in his scrutiny. He had seen countless individuals walk through his doors, each with their own story of desperation and need. my presence was no different, and yet, my situation carried a unique weight. I approached the counter, my heart pounding in my chest. I placed the painting and the watch on the counter. The pawnbroker inspected them with a trained eye, his gaze lingering on the priceless and intricately painted canvas.

He drove away without a word. I was shaking when I entered the pawnshop, Whitney was worried looking at me. I smiled at her, "I'll be fine." I patted her head. The pawnshop was filled with antiques and the mellow music fitted it. "Hello, sir. How can I help you?" he smiled "I want to exchange this for money" I said while taking the gold bar out of my coat. He was surprised. " It's been a while since someone exchanged a gold bar in here."

I muttered, tugging at the hem of the impossibly short dress Mary had squeezed me into. The fabric shimmered under the streetlights, catching every neon reflection like an oil slick. Mary swatted my hand away. "You look hot, Em. Own it." We stood in line outside Club Enigma, the bass from inside thrumming through the sidewalk. The club's facade was sleek black marble, no windows, just a single steel door guarded by a mountain of a man holding a tablet. "I feel like I'm auditioning for a part in a bad spy movie," I grumbled, fidgeting with the ornate mask Mary had tied around my eyes. "What's with the masks, anyway?"

I open my eyes a crack and peek around. No such luck. Men with guns parade through the warehouse around me. I lay on exactly the sort of couch I was picturing, which happens to be blue, against one wall. Most of the men wear T-shirts from the garage and barely ever stop touching their guns. My heart pounds. Luca has me. He…what, convinced Thano to turn on Dante? The mafia politics are too hard to follow with my head pounding louder than the drums in the Thanksgiving Day parade.

He tells me how he found one of his men killed next to their old warehouse and some goods were stolen. "What's in the warehouse that you seem deeply affected?" I ask as I massage his head. Nothing is legal in the mafia. We stay silent for a few minutes until Aiden turns his head before getting comfortable. I realize his face is facing my thighs. He moves closer to my sex and I tug his hair.

Meanwhile, Pawn was rapidly falling through the air, and was about to hit the ground. “Pawn!” Everyone ran to the edge of the rooftop. The agents looked down with panic written all over their faces. Yet, right as Pawn was about to hit the ground, a garbage truck whistled by right under him, and he landed directly on it. Within the garbage truck’s cab area, a sturdy man was smiling wickedly, revealing a mouth full of white teeth. He stretched one of his hands out of the window and extended a middle finger in the direction of Tyr and the others.

Other cars were waiting behind them, their headlights casting a glow over the scene. Shawn was busy with his phone when someone knocked at the glass door. He looked out of the glass to see a strange man dressed in tattered clothes. The man's face was gaunt, his eyes sunken, and Shawn's instincts told him something was off. He whined down his glass to talk to the man, but before he could say a word, the man pulled out a gun from his back and fired at him twice on the stomach. Shawn's face was shocked, his eyes wide with pain and surprise.

Everyone knew that pimps only cared about money. The pimp followed just as we had expected. Gavin opened the trunk of his car to show him the 'costumes'. I snuck up behind them and knocked the back of his head. Knocking him out in the process. We put him in the trunk and drove off to a warehouse we had prepared specifically for this purpose.

Or for anything else for that matter. By the time I drive into town, I’ve made up my mind. I head straight for a pawn shop I noticed once while in town. When I tell the attendant that I want to pawn my car, he gives it one look and suggests that I would get a better deal if I sold it as scrap. In the end, he agrees to loan me a hundred dollars. He insists it’s a good deal. I don’t have time to haggle further–I need to go.
