Khyrix immediately stepped between me and the text, "Let me go through it." He laid the book on the table. As he carefully opened the heavy cover to the table of contents, I leaned over his shoulder, holding my breath. There was a strange substance growing all over the pages. Whatever it was, it grew like a network of veins, wrapping tightly around the edges of each sheet. Khyrix’s eyes scanned down the table of contents, instantly opening to page four hundred and thirteen. The page revealed a highly detailed, hand-drawn illustration. It was an exact replica of the massive tree that stood at the heart of our academy grounds.

Hyacinth had in her a cruel and shallow nature. She was born deprived of her right to a rich and sustainable environment. Hyacinth is a miracle baby of two wealthy entrepreneurs who decided to fall in love in their early 40’s. An accidental fire happened on the day she was born in the hospital, and she was one of the new-borns that the facility had lost. For years, Hyacinth’s original family had tried to look for her. Upon reaching 10 years since she was lost, the couple lost their faith and had left their money to the charity.

Hyacinth patted the empty bit of sofa beside her – and then realised it was so covered in pink, fluffy blankets and cushions that she had to remove about a dozen of them before I could even attempt to sit down. ‘Maybe it would be better if she didn’t move them,’ said Brian, with the air of someone adjusting their monocle. ‘This is a barrier to keep your pesky little hands off.’ I sighed again; Hyacinth met my eyes and smiled sympathetically. She shoved off the last few cushions and a bundled-up throw and then sat back down, her legs crossed, a large, old book held open on her lap. Its pages were yellowed and warped, and its cover was leather-bound and gilded.

My legs gave out from underneath me, I tried to brace myself for impact against the ground, but instead my weak body was pulled into strong arms. I blinked, trying to clear the blurriness in my eyes again, the dark spots started clouding my vision, but before it fully had a chance to pull me in, I was met with deep seafoam eyes that shone with so much intensity, “I have you.." *** This chapter wasn't the best, my apologies, next chapter will be better I promise.
