Alpha’s thirst for Ember
Ember stood rooted to the ground in fear.
An owl hooted nearby, but she couldn’t see a thing through the thick red fog. She could only see her own hand if she brought it up really close to her face.
The ground felt solid, but she had sunk into it three times now, gasping for breath, desperately trying to swim out, only that she didn’t know which way was up. It felt like quicksand, only it wasn’t sandy. It was thick, like foam. Red like blood. It sucked her in, swallowed her whole, and spat her back out. Each time she drowned, and respawned back on the surface, on hard, unmoving ground.
