“You shame her memory with every misstep,” Silas said, not bothering to lower his voice. “Do you think grief earns you favor? Skill? No. If you cannot hold your blade steady, girl, don’t pretend to fight like Marisella.”
Trixie bit the inside of her cheek until she tasted blood. Across the courtyard, Trisha looked on with a delicate smile and hands folded neatly behind her back.
“She’s trying, Father,” Trisha said gently, always the diplomat, always the darling. “You know how fragile she is.”
