BOUND BY OMERTÀ
“Speaking of words! Do you know the coffee machine spoke to me this morning?”
I could feel Iason flummoxed gaze on me, but I paid it no heed.
“It said. ‘Leo, little birds within the flock hover for food.’” He gave me a knowing look, as if I was supposed to understand what the hell he was talking about.
I sighed heavily. Whelp! Guess he’s gone cuckoo again.
Forcing myself to entertain his eccentricity, I asked, “And what did you tell the coffee machine, Theíos?”
My uncle gasped, as if utterly scandalized by my question. “What sort of stupid question is that, my boy? Of course, I told it, ‘We must be wary of the little birds, or else they will kill us!’”
