I hold my aching side, bracing myself to keep going, run it off, when I notice two things at once. A few feet away, under the tall oak where Mari had been perched, there’s a white rabbit, upright on her haunches, staring at me, frozen in place. And my wolf isn’t fighting me for our skin. The rabbit’s tiny heart flutters under its smooth fur, racing. Its pink and white ears point skyward. My wolf notes the little critter, his mouth instinctively watering, but he dismisses her as quickly as he notices her.

And it did. The rabbit let out a loud, deafening screech that shook The Intertwine to the core. I gasped, pressing my hands over my ears as I crumbled to the ground. A loud ping sound rang in my ears, and my head was hazy and disoriented as I tried to gather my thoughts. That was no rabbit. Rabbits didn’t make a loud banshee screech that could burst someones eardrums. What was it going to do next? Morph into a monster? My eyes managed to peel open, still watery and blurry, and I searched around for Raphael.

A normal one would be 2 gold coins without fur and 3 gold coins with fur.” Tyle paused “Madam that is if you are lucky to get one.”

Peggy swallowed hard, a chill running down her spine that had nothing to do with the cold… Heather suddenly stopped hard, nearly sending them all over her head. “Heather, what the hell?!” Archer shouted. Heather was growling. Peggy glanced around before she saw it too. The body and ears belonged to a rabbit. The face had things, black horns, and long tentacles that scraped along the ground. It looked at them all with its dark brown eyes. “It’s not afraid,” Heather hissed in their minds. “I don’t care, go around it!” Archer shouted. The rabbit didn’t move as his voice echoed around the snow.

She seemed to be full every time the men left. When I took water into Rebecca's room, I noticed her face glowing, and her tummy had grown bigger too. "Everly, come look! This is the bloodstone I'm growing. It'll come out in another month. After Mom sells it for a good price, we'll be living the high life!" I touched Rebecca's tummy and felt something move under the skin. I drew my hand back with a start. "Rebecca, is being a rabbit-woman really that great?" I couldn't help but ask. "Mom gave me a pouch of spices yesterday and told me to let it burn as I slept."

“Hands back. It will kick.” “I can.” “It will break its spine,” he said, low and firm. The sentence made me freeze. I pulled my hands back, shaking, and watched instead as Colton eased the wire with slow, careful movements, speaking under his breath, words I couldn’t hear, not English, or maybe English so low it became vibration. The rabbit went still for half a heartbeat, trembling. Colton cut the wire. The rabbit spasmed, freed, then bolted, three frantic hops into the brush before it collapsed behind a clump of leaves, breathing hard.

Thank god. He climbed back into his SUV and started toward the cabin, going slowly enough to watch for any movement along the side of the road. There. He stopped and peered through the rain at the movement. It wasn't Star, just a bunny. But what was a walnut brown, lop-eared rabbit doing out here in the woods? Native cottontails were light, mottled brown with perky ears - this had to be a lost pet. Worse yet, it was clearly dragging itself along without the use of one of its back feet.

She stood up and followed them. Leanunya followed the tracks silently drawing a dagger out from its sheath. She followed the tracks and soon spotted the rabbit underneath a bush nibbling on some grass. It had brown grey fur and hadn’t noticed Leanunya. She watched a moment before throwing her dagger with perfect accuracy straight into the rabbit's heart. It didn’t even have time to flinch as it froze up dead.

About an hour passed and I was about to fall asleep again when I felt he licked the mark on my neck. I gasped and shrugged him a bit with my eyes still closed. Then i slowly turn my body to face him, still with his arms around me. "Don't even..." I was about to scold him but I stopped when I opened my eyes and my eyes met his darkened eyes. They are black. The eyes that belong to his wolf. "Eaton.." I whispered, kind of scared.
