As I stepped into the night air, the first droplets of rain began to fall, cold against my skin. I shivered and pulled my coat tighter around me, searching for any sign of shelter from the sudden downpour. The streetlights glistened through the sheets of rain, casting a blurred, ethereal glow on the deserted street. My shoes splashed in the puddles, the water seeping through the thin soles as I wandered, hoping for a reprieve from the storm.

Rain poured relentlessly, and I stared at my phone, irritated by Terence's last text. [I'm busy today. Can't be there with you. Head home and help me pick someone up at the service area.] I turned off the screen as memories of those rainy days flooded my mind. From inside their home, one could hear the calming and melancholic sound of raindrops. In the past, rain used to evoke fear in Keisha. But with Colten's help and love, the fear was slowly replaced with joyful memories amidst the rain. Author's POV As Ember continued her journey through the silent road, the raindrops gradually intensified, drenching her hoodie and jeans. Each droplet seemed to merge with the tears streaming down her face, creating a blurred vision of the world around her. The pain in her limp became more apparent with every step, but she pressed on, determined to reach her destination.

She knew she’d never make it back up the mountainside, so instead, she’d continued downwards. She’d struggled to stay calm as the last light of day slowly slipped away. The trail was muddy and slippery, and she fell several times. Luckily, she’d managed to grab nearby trees to stop her from barreling all the way down the mountain. She thought about hiding under a tree and just waiting for the rain to stop. But lightning bolted through the sky and thunder clapped, frightening her to her core. She was soaked right through her clothes and still, the rain kept falling. Amelia had never experienced a rainstorm like this. It was vicious and violent, unlike the showers back home or during her stay
