Made sense. “Well, Alpha Steven mentioned that he wished he knew if there was a way to somehow protect you from visions. I remembered that I had done this, and we looked. Sure enough, there is a way.” He pointed to the stone hanging from the end of the chain. “This is sapphire moonstone. It’s very rare but it has protective properties. It will protect you from whatever bond Cornelius has on you.” I took the necklace and looked at it curiously. It wasn’t pretty, but it was very unique. In the stone’s depths, it looked like an ocean, swirling and moving. I was mesmerized by it.

Victoria froze for a beat before she narrowed her eyes at me. "What's gotten into you? What are you plotting now?" Lucas looked just as confused. "Avery, you said you loved the ring," he said with a frown. I smiled. Taking Victoria's hand, I murmured, "Mom's right. Honestly, all the presents we've given her before were too small. This ring fits her much better." Lucas blinked, thrown. "I had this custom-made for you. It's one of a kind—"

"My girl. You are safe." "I'm safe, Ma," Starr said, covering her mother's hand with her own. "We're safe. All three of us." Her mother's gaze moved to the small bundle in Starr's arms, and her whole face transformed, decades of grief and worry falling away all at once into something purely, simply joyful. "Oh," she breathed. "Oh, Starr. Look at her." "Her name is Iris," Christopher said quietly, standing just behind Starr's shoulder. "We wanted something that would carry a piece of him with her, without being quite so obvious about it."

Azraiel exhales and they take their places again. “So”, Azraiel begins, “A blood stained cloth, a book, a moonstone pendant and wolfsbane.” “The pendant is encased in silver.” Charlotte remarks eyeing the moonstone laid out on the table. Azraiel’s brows furrow. “Can I see them?” He asks Charlotte. Charlotte nods, probably thinking about the contents revealed from the bag. He carefully picks up the lilac cloth and sniffs it. The smell is faint but still present. An indescribable look covers his face as he passes the fabric to Theo. “Tell me if you think the same.”

The river puts it out. Like you always tell me, the balance!” My chest tightened. He remembered everything I said. Even the small things. It made me proud, but it also scared me. How much longer could I keep shielding him from the cracks in my world, from the things I was too afraid to say out loud? “Want to help me finish it, Mom?” Steven held out a green crayon. His hopeful little eyes cut through my worried mind.

'Find out who gave her the ruby necklace. I stare at him. 'Find the necklace.' His eyes narrow. 'And find out what you are.' I swallow. 'And then what?' Steven gives me a faint smile. 'Then perhaps we'll have something worth discussing.' He reaches for the door. I suddenly remember something. 'Wait.' He stops. 'What?' 'If you send me back...' I hesitate. 'Will you stop watching me?' Steven turns around. I hold his gaze. 'No more spies.' His expression becomes thoughtful.
