Raven gasped, clutching her temple. Axel pulled her closer, but Cairo only smiled, unbothered.
“You’ll see soon enough,” the siren said softly. “The Veil doesn’t make mistakes and when the storm comes, you will choose me.
You always do.”
With that, Cairo stepped backward, his body dissolving into water until only the ripple of the lake remained.
Raven sagged in Axel’s grip, her head spinning. The wolf’s arms tightened around her, trembling with rage and something more fragile.
