Jay still waiting for me to return, leaning casually against the wall. The second he sees me, he straightens, falling in behind me without a word. We walk into the gym together. The mats are already set up across the floor, and Coach stands waiting for us, arms crossed, ready to begin. “I want everyone to gather.” He said waving his hand at us to gather around. I move with the others, Jay peeling off to the side like always, watching without interfering. “Today we’re continuing combat training,” Coach says, scanning the room. “Go ahead and find your partner.”

Once she brought back the supplies, it was time for all business and forget about everything else from earlier. “Alright guys, let’s get started. Just open up you presentation deck to the first slide. Project Second Chance is ready to start.”

Beatrice added on a serious note. Madeline closed her eyes briefly and sighed heavily. “...It's over for me...” And, she felt Beatrice squeezing her hand. “I assure you Madeline that it's not the end of the world.” Beatrice put on a nice smile and sighed as she turned to look at a picture frame on her desk. Madeline had seen the frame but not the picture in it as it was backing her. Beatrice took the picture frame and showed Madeline. It was a picture of a cute little boy smiling happily and playing in the pool with his floater. He also had chestnut coloured hair and bright eyes like Beatrice. It only took these few seen qualities to know what was up.

They came closer to me and Ryder slapped me with a force that made me jolt. “If you don't have any money or something valuable, I am going to get what I want through another way.” He grabbed me and threw me to the ground. I was scared and I said a silent prayer to the Moon goddess, and just immediately I heard a familiar voice telling him to stop. I turned to see CANE.

Did Trip think he had a rat in his house? He pulled his phone from his pocket and dialed a number. “Yeah?” “I need you to grab my bike and head down to Deep Creek Lake. Pack a bag,” he said. “Of course, Wrath, anything you need,” he said. “Thanks, Weasel.” He ended the call and dialed another number. “Wrath.” “I found the memory stick. When Weasel gets here, I’ll be heading back to Reading to sort this shit out.” “What’s on it?”

At 07:30 PM In an office building, to be precise, in the CEO room of Verz Incorporation, a young girl is seen watching the program in a video. This time, the long-haired woman seemed to chuckle, seeing a funny scene in which two kittens were running to each other. They seemed to be playing, and then a black and white cat jumped on another cat, so they rolled around. “Kittens are cute, but not a few of them need more attention. Can I get them as my pet? Hm… when was the last time I had a pet, huh?” muttered Abby.

Then she moves her hand slightly. “And there’s the second.” Silence. Complete silence. I stare at the monitor. Kade stares at the monitor. Vex stares at the monitor. No one says anything. The technician smiles wider. “Congratulations.” I blink. “Second?” “Yes.” “Second what?” She laughs softly. “Baby.” I turn my head toward Kade. He looks like someone hit him.

“Rat shifter. At least that’s what her license said.” “License?” I growled. “You mean registration. She was tagged.” The rookie paled. I stood and stared at the wall behind the dumpster. Rat. The last one had been panther. Before that… bear. Dragon. Wolf. And now a rat. My phone buzzed. Text from Chase: Another one? I typed back: Yeah. That makes five. Curt said the same on his end. We’ve got a pattern. He replied almost instantly: want backup?
