" I smiled slow and sharp, folded the paternity test into a paper airplane, and flicked it over her shoulder. Her eyes locked on it, arms flailing as she stumbled after—completely blind to the figure standing right in front of her. Eric snagged the little plane off his shoulder, frowning. "What's this? What are you two up to?" "N-Nothing! Just give it back!" Tammy stammered. Suspicion darkened his face as he unfolded the paper. With every line he read, his fists clenched tighter—until he finally crushed it and hurled it at her.

As things started to heat up between us, he kissed my nose and gently touched my hair. I saw the emotion in his eyes, so I closed mine, ready to give in. But he suddenly stopped moving. I opened my eyes and saw him staring at the scar on my forehead and the rough skin on my face. I was not the young, pretty girl he remembered anymore. His eyes showed a flash of disgust, but he quickly turned away and pretended nothing had happened. “I just remembered. I still have some work to finish.”
