“Raven, we take the left flank. Guardians, follow her. Riders, hold the gates!” The guardians; Cairo, Malrik, and Nyxian nodded, their presence a reassuring force. Even now, Raven could feel the power each one radiated, faint echoes of divinity hidden beneath the guise of their mortal forms. This was the first time they would fight openly alongside her, revealing glimpses of their true selves, and she knew it would tip the scales.

“The coin. The token. The sigil.” He worked his bruised fingers to his neck with an animal’s stubbornness, and for a heartbeat I thought he’d been trying to tear the ropes. Instead he tugged something slick and dark from under his shirt… a small, familiar pendant wrapped in dried blood. I knew it before he held it up. It was Raven’s…no, not the woman’s face I’d seen, but the emblem she wore when she met with Kieran months ago: a raven midflight, talons bared, the same tiny etching I’d seen on a medallion once handed to our enemies.

Smoke still rose from its chimney. The howls so close to us now. I looked over my shoulder and saw six Crimson Fang pack members on brand new Harley Davidsons. They circled our bike, coming closer to us. I realised we couldn't keep running. We had to fight these guys. Raven twirled her hands and whispered magic words. The shadow threads flickered at her fingers as she mouthed every word. Her eyes were blood red. Yeah, she was ready to fight these bastards with me.
