Far beyond the safety of the palace walls, a lone raven landed silently upon the stone ledge of the outermost eastern watchtower. One of the vanguard guards frowned, his hand dropping to his weapon. "Strange bird..." The raven didn't move an inch. It didn't make a sound. It simply sat there, staring directly at the guard. Its large, unblinking eyes were a deep, terrifying crimson. The guard slowly reached his gloved hand toward the creature to shoo it away. Instantly, the raven exploded into a thick, swirling cloud of black mist.
