Raven was sitting on the bed, looking relaxed and comfortable. When she saw me, she smiled mockingly. “Back again?” she asked. “Don’t you ever get tired of this?” I ignored her tone and sat in the chair across from her. “Iris,” I said quietly. “I know you’re in there. I know you can hear me.” Raven laughed. “So, you’re still in denial, I see. How pathetic.” “I’m not talking to you,” I said firmly. “I’m talking to Iris.”

He held her gaze for a long while and then his eyes slid back to mine and he said, "You're not done explaining" And with that he left the room. The second he was gone, raven moved. Not towards the door but to me. "What are you?" "I could kill you" I said in something more than a whisper. It wasn't a threat. It was fact. Yet raven didn't move. "I know" she said simply then pulled back. "Then why are you here?" Raven smiled. But there was something about the smile. It felt cold and old. "Because I saw you" she said and my blood went cold.

“Is it obvious?” My shoulders drop, defeated—and he chuckles. Damn it. I’ve never seen him smile like that before. No sarcasm. No mischief. No sharp edges. Just… simple. Warm. For a split second, I forget where I am. Forget why I’m annoyed. Forget everything except the way that smile hits me square in the chest. I must be staring, because his expression shifts almost immediately, the familiar mask sliding back into place. “A little,” he says. “Come in.”

Lavina, more than anyone else, intended to be with Raveen at all times and in all places. "Hey, come on, smile!" Raveen persuaded. "I don't want to!" Lavina was still grumpy. He motions to the birds, taking a piece of meat from a bag slung across his body and feeding it to the raven in his hand. I just noticed… he’s actually a really weird guy. Grimm throws his hand up and lets the raven fly. Then he clicks his tongue, and another raven flocks to him, perching on his hand. “How the heck did you do that? Did it come down when you called it?” “Ravens are smart creatures. They’re easy to train.” He turns to me. “Put out your arm and call one.” Slowly, I do what he says. One of the birds flies directly to me and settles on my hand.
