CHAPTER 11 The moment you are in there's intense feelings of anxiety and the feeling of being constantly watched, no locals from any village, including Namamali have ever dared to enter. People have stayed away because they fear and they know very well that if they enter, they will never find their way out. The forest has a mass grave containing thousands upon thousands of dead rotting bodies, ultimately, massacred by demons. Evil forest is impenetrable, the only forest with total darkness. The forest is actually haunted by werewolves, witches, and the devil himself. So for Nina to go inside, it was like signing her own death certificate.

She had never really wondered what he always went to do deep in the woods, Henry never told her about his family, probably because she never asked. Henry did his best to avoid any suspicions that about the stranger he harboured in his family’s cabin, he was scared that if his family members would freak out if they found out that there was a human in their cabin. As werewolves they were very particular about him getting too close to humans, to avoid anyone from knowing the truth about him.

The old hunting cabin had definitely seen better days and the empty beer bottles and smouldering fire pit gave away what the occupants had been doing right before they met their end. The scent of blood was hanging heavily in the air and almost masked the scent of burning wood. The snow around the fire pit was married with shoe prints and what appeared to be a scuffle.

Now." *** Raven took me deeper into the woods along paths that seemed only him walked. Hours of walking in silence passed until we reached a stunning hidden clearing. Lots of tents were set up, smoke swirled upward from the corner of the tents. There were wolves roaming between the structures – their scarred, hardened faces turning to observe our arrival with wary eyes. These were not ordinary pack wolves; they were the castaways, the forgotten.

I caught her before she collapsed. “Breathe,” I said. “Focus on me.” Her fingers curled into my shirt. The light dimmed, slowly, reluctantly. Raven turned back, eyes narrowed. “You’re glowing again.” “Yeah, thanks,” I muttered. “Helpful observation.” But the humor didn’t last. The forest felt wrong,too still, like the world was listening. We reached the ridge by sunset. The horizon burned copper, the wind carrying the scent of smoke. “Camp,” Raven ordered.

Nyx stirred inside me, her presence a restless pulse beneath my skin, as if she could sense the approaching storm long before I could. I pulled on my jacket and slipped out of my small cabin, the cold morning air biting at my cheeks. The forest was eerily still, as though holding its breath. The tall pines stretched overhead, their needles shimmering faintly in the early light, casting long, wavering shadows across the mossy floor. The camp was quiet, save for a few early risers preparing for the day. Mara sat on a fallen log, sharpening her claws on a stone with slow, deliberate strokes. Her usually fierce gaze was softened by worry, her brow furrowed as she looked up when I approached.
