he gasped. “Yes.” Lylah wiped her tears and crouched down as the boy approached. He stopped right in front of her, staring at her with those mixed-ringed amber and silver eyes. “Hey, Rheal—” Lylah’s voice trembled. “Why are you crying?” he asked quietly, his voice filled with concern. “I’m happy,” Lylah sniffled. “I’m happy you’re here.” “Me too,” Rheal smiled. “I guess this is the part where we hug?”

Through it all, he could hear echoes of a sharp cry. The crashing waves made the voice unrecognisable for a moment. Then as if a sudden lull descended on the deafening sounds, every other thing stilled for a moment as that sharp cry came clearly. Raymond’s heart dropped to his feet as he recognised the voice. His mouth had just formed her name when the tilting world unfurled for a moment like it was showing him its prey. Wrapped tightly with unseen tentacles in the folds of the crashing waves was the face he loved.

Followed suddenly by the loud angry cry of a newborn absolutely furious about existing. The entire room exhaled at once. Tricia sobbed openly. Raymond physically staggered backward half a step before catching himself against the surgical table. Relief hit so hard it almost hurt. The second baby cried louder now while nurses continued stabilising him carefully. “A boy,” one nurse announced. But Raymond barely heard her. Because at that exact moment his composure finally broke completely. He covered his face briefly with one shaking hand while tears escaped before he could stop them. Not quiet tears. Not controlled tears. The kind ripped out of someone by overwhelming relief after terror.

"What is wrong, Tilda? I have been calling your name for a while now but didn't get any reply. Realizing it wasn't Mom, after all, I cried even more. My ticket to freedom is not even real. Nothing at all. “MAMMA…. please….” The cries turned more soul piercing, telling Raelyna how much pain that little girl was suffering and enduring.
