Read A Book Day Novels & Stories

The workshop started small six people on Zoom every other Wednesday at 9 p.m., when Lagos had finally quieted enough for real listening. Adeyemi called it “Reading After Dark.” No syllabus. No grades. Just books, questions, and whatever came up when people felt safe enough to speak.

So as it stands, update days will be Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays/ Sundays, if I can do more then I will, but until the end of May this is how it will be unless I can get the other book finished earlier. I already have an ongoing book with 43 chapters and I update 2 chapters daily, title I AM YOURS, DANTE, do well to check it out. I tried to assure myself that I would grow out of it. I slipped out of bed to do my morning ritual so I can go back to read my book. Today's weekend, with the way everywhere, is quiet. I am sure they are still sleeping so I will just settle for reading. Hopefully I will be done with the second book before I am called down for breakfast or lunch…. Anyone. I started with THE RITUAL and just a few pages into it and I am already glued. Fuck me if I don't go back for more. I was so lost in my own world when I heard a knock. Ugh, who could that be now. I'll just ignore it.

She made me feel safe and welcomed, something I was gradually losing. I watched as she flipped through the pages of a book, her eyes scanning the pages like she was feasting on them. “Do you really have to finish reading that today?” I asked, crossing my arms as I stared at her. Apart from the fact that she loves cooking, she's obsessed with reading novels as well. Kiera is a book lover, someone that could finish a whole book in a single day. She raised her head slowly, meeting my gaze with a graceful smile, “Yes, I am.” she replied curtly, returning back to the book.

Looking forward to it. I put my phone away and headed to my car. Wednesday. Coffee with Daemon. Monday. First shift at the bookstore. Two things to look forward to. Two reasons to get through the next few days. It wasn't much. But right now, it was enough.
