Chapter 78. Author’s POV Hazel had just woken up a few hours after taking a nap. The soft warmth of the sheets still lingered on her skin, but the cold emptiness beside her made her chest tighten slightly. No one was beside her. Her lashes fluttered open slowly as she groaned softly, her body still heavy from sleep. She stretched herself out, taking a deep breath as her limbs loosened. With sluggish movements, she pulled herself out of bed, her bare feet brushing against the cool floor.

I don’t like it when he looks at me, it give me these weird feelings in the pit of my stomach. “Mommy, eat,” Xavier said as he brought a fork to my mouth. Smiling at him, I took a bite and shuffled his hair. I sat down beside him as I began eating. After eating and watching TV for some time, Xavier wanted me to read him a bedtime story, which after tucking Vincent in, I’m in Xavier’s room reading Pinocchio. I take a look at him to see his eyes already drowsy. He was already falling asleep. I kept the book back on the bedside table. “Good night, baby,” I whispered.

After he finished using the toilet, he climbed into his bed. “What book would you like to read today?” I looked at the row of books on his bookcase. “A new book, Dad,” he replied. “Okay.” I chose one of the books and sat on the edge of the bed. Dashiell leaned against my chest and looked at the book with me. Boyd lay on the floor near the foot of the bed. Tired from playing all day, my son fell asleep when I hadn't finished reading the first page. I laid him on the bed, fixed his blanket, and kissed his forehead. I checked on Boyd. The dog was asleep, too. I put the book on the nightstand before turning out the light.

I was done packing all my things before twelve midnight, I took another shower and I put on my nightgown. I continued reading the book ‘Haunting Adeline,’ it was very interesting. I had read even chapters and I could not put the book down. I got through to chapter fifteen before I decided I was tired and I needed to sleep so I could be well rested for my journey tomorrow. I avoided drinking tonight so I would wake up refreshed.

Luke joined us, kneeling and wrapping us both in his arms. “No monsters here, buddy,” Luke said, kissing his curls. “Only superheroes.” “I don’t want to sleep alone,” Eli mumbled. I exchanged a soft look with Luke, who only smiled and nodded. Then you won’t,” I said gently. We headed back to the bathroom, where I filled the tub a little more and slipped in with Eli resting against my chest, his breathing slowing as the warmth soothed him. Afterward, we all curled up in bed, Luke reading Eli’s favorite bedtime story; The Boy and the Silver Lion, a book Zephan had gifted him. Luke read out loud with that deep, calming voice our son loved so much. Eli nestled between us, eyelids drooping.

The twins are already sleeping, and this little genius needs to sleep too. - I don't want to sleep, I'm big. - Even grown-ups take a nap. Look at Lucifron. Lucifron had fallen asleep on a book. Alexander giggle. Kevin and Mark take the children to their room, leaving Ryan and the couple alone. Ryan takes the book his son gave him. How did that book end up among children's books? Even the paper cover was from a children's book. Ryan reads the back cover of the book, “The Little Mermaid”, then the cover reads: “Catastrophic Prophecies”.

I say picking her back again into my arms she giggled finding out there's no bath time, she still yawned sleepily. "It's bed time, how about I read you a story" I suggested giving her one more push to regress, she was happy about that. I got her the three piggies story book and began to read it, making the voices, huffing and puffing making her hide behind Zorro sometimes and giggling other times.

The rain beats against the bedroom window in a steady beat. I sat on the edge of the bed, a storybook open in my hand, while Max snuggled under a blanket with a picture of his favorite Superman and his stuffed superman too . His brown hair was messy, and his cheeks flushed warm after a full day of play. But... this boy, as always, never ran out of energy. “Come on, Max,” I flipped through the book's pages. “It's getting late. You should go to bed. Mommy have to work tomorrow.”

When it was time to end the call, my child waved. “Bye.” “Bye,” Adrian said. The screen went dark. My child leaned back on the couch. “That was nice.” “Yes,” I said quietly. They yawned. “Can we read the rocket book before bed?” “Of course.” Later that night, after they were asleep, my phone buzzed again. Adrian. “Thank you for letting that happen.” I read the message slowly. “They liked talking to you.” Another pause. “That meant everything to me.”

She was so excited, she had forgotten I was there. After dinner, Lisa goes to her room to catch up on some emails and I put Adrianna to bed. We are currently in her room reading her favorite book, 'If You Give A Mouse a Cookie', when she closes the book and takes it from my hands.
