The first Moon-born noticed immediately. “You’re becoming like us already.” Lira’s chest tightened painfully. “I don’t want to lose myself.” The woman’s expression softened. “That’s the cruelest part.” “What?” “You don’t lose yourself all at once.” Silence. “It happens piece by piece.” The wind across the battlefield suddenly changed. Colder. Sharper. The first Moon-born looked toward the crimson moon immediately. Her expression darkened. “Midnight.” The High Enforcer’s face tightened. “What happens at midnight?”

Luna stood at the Scorchmark's center. Cassian three feet to her right. Both of them watching the dark new moon sky. And then— *Midnight.* The black glass beneath their feet *breathed.* One slow exhalation. As though the earth itself had been holding it. The Scorchmark's veins of old light—those traces of ancient battle energy embedded in the glass—illuminated. Softly. Then brighter. Red-gold spreading outward from the center like blood moving through a body coming back to life.

Miles was going through something, and it was evident that he didn't feel comfortable sharing it with me just yet. As the clock neared four, I quietly tiptoed into the living room. The soft, rhythmic sound of Miles' snores reached my ears, signaling that he had succumbed to sleep's comforting embrace. I let him rest, knowing that when he was ready, he would open up. The sunlight began to fade, casting orange hues across the room. Feeling restless, I decided to gently wake Miles up, hoping he had found some solace in his nap and was ready to confide in me.

I led my Luna straight down the center aisle, stopping dead center in front of the elders' high table. "The high council session is officially open," I rumbled, my deep, rough voice echoing off the concrete tiers like a death sentence. I reached into my jacket, pulling out the physical master data sheets of Project Midnight Eclipse and throwing them onto the center table. "Let's review the records."

And there, emerging from the brilliant light, stood a figure we had not expected to see. It was Luna, the enigmatic witch of the Silverwood, her eyes gleaming with ancient knowledge and power. She held out her hands, a barrier of energy forming between us and the nightmarish entity. "Luna," I whispered, relief flooding my voice. "What are you doing here?" Luna smiled, her voice carrying a note of urgency. "There is more at stake than you realize," she said cryptically. "The true path lies not in confrontation, but in understanding.
