Nodding once, Crane used his free hand to turn the doorknob gently.
He entered first. Lara followed, still holding his hand.
The moment she stepped inside, darkness swallowed her whole.
Pitch black.
She squinted instinctively, but it only made the blindness worse.
She gave up.
Moving closer to Crane, her grip tightened just slightly. He felt her unease immediately.
Then—click.
Light flooded the room.
The sudden brightness stung Lara’s eyes, and she lifted her hands quickly, covering them for a few seconds. Crane, however, kept his eyes open, unfazed, as if the light barely touched him.
