Reading Books Electronically Novels & Stories

“I’m telling you, staring at that thing all the time won’t make your crush text you back.” “Mom! That’s so rude! I don’t even have a crush,” Dasha snapped, clearly annoyed and a little embarrassed. “I’m just reading stories on Kindle!” “Kindle? Isn’t that the app where all those steamy, raunchy novels are? The ones that make Fifty Shades look like a church sermon?” Aunt Lori said, her tone dripping with suspicion. “Mom! That’s not true!” Dasha protested, blushing as she stabbed at her scrambled eggs. “Kindle is for all kinds of stories, okay? And not all of them are… you know, like that.”

No need to run the battery down, I reason with myself, although I still feel twitchy about having no means of communication with the outside world. But as I close my eyes, the sudden image of the van lurching my direction is all it takes to make leaving my electronics behind a non-issue. I don’t think I have ever gone completely without them, though, I realize. I’ve never fully ‘unplugged’, ever. This ought to be interesting. In a flash of inspiration, I walk to my home office and grab four of the paperback books Mari loaned me – two romances by Erin Wright and two thriller stories by Paul Austin Ardoin. Pete glances up and smiles briefly before he returns his focus to my home computer.

she said, giving me a pointed look. I was currently scrolling through my e-reader. Slade had gotten it for me the moment I asked; I had missed reading so much. It was as if my love for stories had vanished with my memories, but now that they were back, the hunger for a good plot was ravenous. Slade had even promised that for every digital book, he would buy me the physical copy. I can't thank him enough. It’s not that I can’t buy them myself, but there’s something special — something intimate — about him filling my bookshelves with the stories I love.

I ask. "That will be way too heavy" she sighs. She hasn't exactly made things easy on herself, one looks like it's at least 600 pages. "Ever thought about getting one of those e-reader thingies? They hold all your books on one device" I say, gesturing behind the counter to a display of different screens. She smiles slightly before going back to the covers in front of her.

_DAISY POV<3 After lunch, everyone moved into the sitting room for dessert and small talk. I stood in a corner with one of Mama’s guests; her name is Raya, and she is very nice to me. We talked about things we liked and movies she’s watched. I told her about interesting books I’ve read, and she introduced me to an online reading app. She said I didn’t need to carry my books around; I could just d******d and read anytime I liked on my phone.

The adult Blotters and I turned to watch Trisha, sitting on the rug between the boards, where shy hesitating lines started appearing. “She’s nice,” said Ann. I nodded with an affectionate smile, and then frowned. “I’m an ass. I mean the farm animal, Ann, before you scold me. How come I didn’t think about it before? I have to show you how to use the tablets to read books you don’t have here!” “On the device?” asked Joseph. “Yeah! You can access books from all over the world. Zillions of them! I’m so sorry! We’re doing it right tonight.”

She knows it is impossible to erase nor to kill a man or woman using her own hands, after all, the human species is on the same level of importance as theirs, both are beloved by the creator. The day went on with Azrael telling her words and the meaning of it as she lays down on his bed and him reading a red thick book, the dictionary. He can use his phone or laptop but he prefers to read something that is tangible, for him, it means that he can always come back to it without having it changed or lost. It was a weird preference he had, considering he was behind one of the genius inventions of the year, an application that altered the world of commerce.

"You think those are going to continue to grow in popularity?" "Of course," I replied. "They're convenient, you can store a whole library on one tiny memory card and the technology continues to improve. Other than reading in the bathtub, there isn't really a downside." "I keep thinking of getting one but haven't talked myself into it yet," he admitted. "Do you have one?" "Sure," I replied eagerly. "Right here." I pulled my e-reader out of my purse and turned it on. "I see." His laugh was warm and sexy and came all the way from his gut. "The shy little vamp has unexpected depths."

“And when will that be?” Peter looked at his calendar and put a large red circle around July 20. “Man lands on moon, Legal Briefs lands in bookstores.” “That’s only three weeks from now!” Rachel was stunned. “It’s the new age of electronic publishing. We’ll hit the e-book market first. It’s a good way to get some great pre-print publicity. We like to move fast. Speaking of fast, I have another meeting in...” Peter checked his watch, “...five minutes. We have your phone, fax and e-mail, so don’t stray too far from home. In the meantime, start thinking about your next book. I’d like to see an outline by the end of the week. Sandra, always a pleasure.”
