Reading Journal: For Book Lovers Novels & Stories

I watch as she processes my words, her face going from scrunched and confused, to surprised until a wide smile splits across her face. "Are you serious?" she asks. I take the book from her hands and flip it open to the first sex scene and hand it back to her. I watch as her eyes flit across the page. As she reads, a pink flush spreads up her neck to her face until she looks up at me. "You read this whole book?" she asks, flipping through all of the pages. "Yep. Jack and I both did. And every week we go to book club to talk about it. The ladies have kind of taken an interest in us. Giving us some tips and things." I admit, feeling my face blush.

Instead, she shifted gears, asking, "What were you reading?" I snapped my fingers, and my journal reappeared in my hand. It was a treasured possession, filled with entries spanning the past 100 years. I had amassed a collection of these journals, each one a testament to my love of recording every detail of my life. I wrote about experiences, adventures, thoughts, plans, and ideas - nothing was left unrecorded.

I let out a sigh of relief while feeling some triumph. I decided to begin journaling – someone has told me to try it as it will help you find out who you are. I did not think much of it but as soon as I started writing down points , I felt my soul being filled with self love. After I was done with my journaling , I just sat back against my chair. Today has been good – I feel as if something was lifted of my chest , I felt something different was stirring in the air. Maybe it has to do with the weather today , but I feel like I can conquer anything that comes my way.

About everything, about the way he makes me feel, about the restless nights he fills my mind; about the way my chest tightens whenever the tip of his ears goes bright red. So, I find myself typing. Me: right, okay... The three dots appear and then disappear, before it appears again. Liam: Any news on the journal? Oh right, the journal. Reading his mother’s journal is like having a sneak peek into an obvious romantic’s life, the way she pieces down her story is elegant, she describes everything in detail, she would have made a great writer, maybe that’s why Liam is blessed with writing. Me: nothing special yet! If there’s anything worth mentioning, I will inform you.

Damien caught me tighter. “Leave it.” “No.” “That thing wants you closer.” “The book has been more honest than half the people in this town.” “It is not a person.” “Neither are half the people in this town.” The journal teetered on the edge. Pages fluttering. Glowing. Waiting. Then one page ripped free and flew upward on a burst of silver wind.

They stood for a while. “The book is doing something,” he said. “The reader messages.” She’d been sharing some of them with the household — not all, some were private in ways that the sharing would violate, but the ones that were about the quality of the book rather than the specifics of the readers’ lives. “Yes,” she said.
